{159} Thanksgiving alone

by | Nov 24, 2016 | Life and all That

This entry is part [part not set] of 130 in the series Blog-a-Day2016

At 48 years old with no children, no siblings, and dead parents, I am very used to “holidays alone.” I still haven’t decided if I prefer it or not, though.

It’s very much just another day off for me — doing writing, editing, playing with my dog, making lunch. In this age of social networking, I’m more aware of the celebrations around me featuring friends and family but I’m not connected, just observing.

It’s odd, but I’ve rarely felt lonely during holidays spent alone. This year, I’m torn a little — a friend has invited me to a get-together, but it is far from where I live, and I’d have to catch a ride there and back, which just makes me feel like a burden, which really does not put me in a festive mood. *sigh* But the other side of that are genuine feelings of loneliness which are creeping up on me.

Still, it’s a day for gratitude, not wallowing in self pity, so I am trying to enjoy it with thoughts of thankfulness in mind.

In that spirit: thank you for reading and following along, your comments, your encouragement, your thoughts and opinions. Thank you.
